Defending Against Scams Targeting National Day Celebrations

With the ongoing celebrations in commemoration of SG60, there may be an increase in scams. Individuals are advised to stay vigilant during this period and take proactive measures to enhance your online defences from such scams.

With the ongoing celebrations in commemoration of SG60, threat actors may exploit the festive period for fraudulent activities. Individuals are strongly encouraged to stay vigilant and take proactive measures to strengthen their online defences.

Threat actors may deploy various scam tactics tailored to the festive occasion to trick unsuspecting individuals. These include:

  • Fraudulent links prompting individuals to redeem fake SG60 vouchers or National Day tickets, leading them to give away their personal and banking information or download malicious software.

  • Phishing websites or fake online stores impersonating legitimate businesses, offering heavily discounted products as part of SG60 and National Day-related sales to trick individuals into making fraudulent purchases.

  • Impersonation scams where threat actors may impersonate government officials or charitable organisations via emails, messages or calls, offering fake invitations to SG60-related events, false refund claims or soliciting donations.

Verify requests or offers

Be wary of unsolicited redemption links, emails, messages, calls or fundraising efforts. Always verify their authenticity by calling the company’s official hotline or visit their official website directly.

Purchase from reputable sellers/vendors

Purchase from reputable and verified sellers or vendors. Individuals are encouraged to check reviews and business ratings before making any transactions.

Safeguard your personal information

Do not share personal, banking, or Singpass details unless the request has been independently verified. Government officials will never ask members of public to transfer money or disclose personal/banking details over a phone call.

Report suspicious activity

Report suspicious SG60- related scams to the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Cyber Emergency Response Team (SingCERT) immediately to receive assistance from the authorities.
